Warren Randall, Seppeltsfield Wines - For services to Australian wine.
Some wine companies are passing through history. Others are history. Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, established in 1851 and home to five generations of the Seppelt family, is undergoing a rebirth under a new owner and new managing director, Warren Randall. A supremely talented sparkling maker with Seppelt, Victoria, in the 1980s, Randall sees his new job as custodian. So far, he has done an exceptional job.
Bringing the winery back to life involved the renovation of 90 open fermenters and an expensive refurbishment of the gravity flow winery. Last year the first-release wines, made under former Penfolds winemaker Fiona Donald, scooped awards. Seppeltsfield is back.
