Maturation
Vintage in the old gravity cellar at Seppeltsfield and fortified with Seppeltsfield produced spirit. The wine was aged in 500 litre casks (puncheon) for the wines 100 years in the 1878 cellar.
Colour
Dense impenetrable olive brown with distinctive green edge.
Nose
Initial lift of alcohol followed by burnt toffee, raisin fruit cake and vanilla aromas. Very powerful aged characters tend to dominate the fruit and combine with an obvious sweet vanillin oak lift.
Palate
Sweet and viscous showing burnt toffee, raisin fruit and dark chocolate. There is a strong influence of wood aged characters that outshines the fruit.
The finish has remarkable intensity enhanced by acidity and alcohol giving considerable flavour length.
An extremely complex wine showing a greater influence of wood aged complexity than many other vintages.
A very fresh and vibrant wine.
