In 1983, Seppelt Fortified Winemaker, James Godfrey created a special blend from the finest and oldest Tokay barrels, some dating back to 1964, at the Seppelt Rutherglen Winery. This blend was then aged in small oak casks at Seppeltsfield before being released as Seppelt DP59 Rare Rutherglen Tokay.
It is the recipient of 4 trophies and 48 gold medals in Australian Wine Shows since 1990.

Maturation
A blend of vintages dating back to the original Solera components laid down in 1964. During this time the wine has been aged in small oak casks, concentrating the flavours and adding intense, aged characters.
Colour
Deep tawny in colour, with an olive green tint.
Nose
The extremely complex nose is the essence of aged Tokay. Toffee and caramel fruit aromas combine with substantial aged rancio characters, whilst retaining intensity and freshness.
Palate
The palate is profoundly rich and luscious, the quality of the original, ultra-ripe fruit shining through. Sweet caramel coffee and toffee flavours, with perhaps a hint of earthy tar, build to a massively concentrated mid palate that reveals further layers of complexity before a clean, lifted
finish.
